LA NATATION PAR JEAN TARIS

Vigo's inventive portrait of the eponymous French swimming champion.

His second film - another documentary -
is only eleven minutes long, yet with
striking images, including some under-
water shots that point to the dramatic
possibilities that Vigo was to explore further in his last film, 'L'Atalante'.
TARIS encapsulates a lot of the aesthetic appeal of all of Vigo's films that lies in the tension between surface realism and a delicate surrealism.
