In ROIS ET REINE, Desplechin explores the territory between comedy and tragedy and ex-
hilaration and despair, and the permanent conflict that afflicts us all - the conflict between man
and woman, father and child, life and death. The film’s romantic and emotional power is irresist-
ible, and some of France’s best actors deliver their best performances. It is impossible not to feel engaged.

Arnaud Desplechin was born in 1960 in Roubaix. In 1984 he graduated in cinematography from the IDHEC in Paris. After the medium-length family portrait LA VIE DES MORTS, he directed his first feature-length film, LA SENTINELLE (1992). His next film COMMENT JE ME SUIS DISPUTÉ… premiered at Cannes, as did ESTHER KAHN, in 2000 and LA COMPAGNIE DES HOMMES in 2003.
