1996 with 'The Promise' (La Promesse),
the Brothers third feature.
This was followed in 1999 by 'Rosetta',
which won them their first Palme dOr.
Then followed 'The Son' (Le Fils), which won best actor for Olivier Gourmet at
Cannes in 2002. THE CHILD (LEnfant),

In the highly acclaimed Palme dOr winner, THE CHILD, the Dardennes have created a beautifully
acted, exquisitely observed morality tale. The powerful central performance by Jeremie Renier
as Bruno gives the film its strength.
|
'In a remarkable film, the Dardennes once again prove that theres still life to be found in
hard unvarnished realism, especially when executed with such adult seriousness and
compassion.' Jonathan Romney, Screen International, Cannes Film Festival |

Bruno (Jeremie Renier) is twenty, Sonia (Deborah Francois) is eighteen. They live by using
Sonias benefit and the thefts committed by Bruno and the kids in his gang. Sonia has just given
birth to Jimmy, their child. How can Bruno become a father, being so carefree and living as he
does for the present, solely concerned about the money from his deals?
