Robert Guédiguian

Born in Marseilles in 1953, Guédiguian's father was an Armenian dock-worker and his mother was German. His first film was 'Dernier Été' in 1980 and his subsequent films include the hugely successful 'Marius and Jeanette' in 1997 and 'La Ville est Tranquille' in 2000. Guédiguian's work has been much influenced by Marseilles and his films reflect and celebrate the area's mixture of tradition and modernity and its cosmopolitan people.
