Sometimes described as 'the French Ken Loach', Guédiguian's inter- national reputation was made with the hugely successful 'Marius and Jeanette' in 1997. Subsequent films 'A l'Attaque' and 'A la Place du Coeur' were also well received by critics and audiences. Guédiguian has long used the same group of actors in his films, including his wife, the actress Ariane Ascaride.
